The Weight of Wayne’s Medical Bills Was Heavy

Wayne Scott says, "I've been with the church for 21 years, and this is the first time in my life that I've had to take any time off my job. I've had great help from the staff with meals and donated PTO. The financial support from HOCF helped so much to relieve the financial stress of medical bills. My family is also so grateful for the support. I am very grateful for everything you’ve done for me.”

Wayne Scott was at work at First Presbyterian Church of Orlando when he suddenly felt ill. Later that day, he went to the ER. The hospital doctor diagnosed him with several significant health issues, which was followed by mounting medical bills and many months away from work. Wayne was overwhelmed. Thankfully, the Heart of the City Foundation family was able to help him with his medical bills.

One day last August, Wayne had made it to work at FPCO where he’s served for 21 years on the Special Services team, but he soon felt too sick to even drive himself home. One of his peers took him home. But his symptoms were out-of-control, so later he went to the ER and was admitted.

After some testing, he was diagnosed with several major health issues. Because of them, he would not only have expensive medical bills to pay, but he would also not be able to work. The weight of his financial situation was disheartening.

Trusting God, Wayne took his leave of absence and took care of his body, going to rehabilitative therapy twice a week for three hours a session for three months. He was working hard to recover. The FPCO staff generously donated some of their PTO to help care for him, but bills still hung over his head.

Then our HOCF Donors were able to step in and help Wayne out. To give him an incredible gift—the hope and love of Jesus Christ in the form of financial assistance.

Wayne was so thankful and relieved!

Now Wayne is doing much better, physically and emotionally. And he was finally able to return to work at FPCO March 1st.

We’re so thankful to our donors for serving and encouraging Wayne and others like him when they’re struggling the most. Their generosity truly pours life into the people of our church, city, and world.
