7 Reasons to Give to the Heart of the City Foundation

We know there are a lot of fantastic giving opportunities out there—we ourselves love to pour our generosity directly into some of them, too. But the Heart of the City Foundation offers a giving opportunity to Covenant Partners of First Presbyterian Church of Orlando that—regardless if you start your own fund or contribute to another—uplifts our community in a unique way. 

Here are 7 reasons to give to the Heart of the City Foundation: 

  1. Sustain and extend the reach of First Pres. From the very beginning, the Heart of the City Foundation has existed to support our church. Everything we do is to serve the congregation of the church and to amplify its impact on our community, so that our church can truly be the heart of our city. 

  2. Leave a legacy that lasts. You should be able to give to what is meaningful to you for generations, beyond the limits of your lifetime. In Matthew 6:19-21, Jesus tells us, “Don’t store up your money for moths to destroy.” We have been helping Covenant Partners strategically invest their generosity in our church, city, and world ever since the Foundation’s inception in 1979. 

  3. Give a gift that aligns with your values and passions. You manifest what it means to be the heart of our church, city, and world. As Jesus taught us to pray, we ask God, “Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” One way we take part in fulfilling this prayer is by using our resources to move into the areas of need that God has placed upon each of our hearts.

  4. Feel fulfilled spiritually. As humans made in the image of our Creator, we crave alignment with our resources and our purpose. Nothing feels better than knowing that we are obeying God’s calling for us, spreading the faith, hope, and love of Jesus Christ throughout our church and beyond. 

  5. Ensure the plan for your estate reflects your faith and convictions. Without the necessary preparation, the future of your estate lies in the hands of the State. When you leave a bequest gift in your legal will or trust for the Foundation, you can be certain that your resources will support our church and nurture our community through Christ-centered initiatives and individuals. 

  6. Enjoy certain tax benefits. As a 501(c)3, most gifts you give to the Heart of the City Foundation will be tax-deductible. Further, we are able to accept certain tax-smart gifts like highly appreciated stocks as well as qualified charitable distributions through your IRA as long as you’re eligible. 

  7. Be a part of a special community of like-minded believers. Nearly every one of our team is a Covenant Partner of First Pres, and the same goes for our fund sponsors, Foundation Champions, and donors in general. We are all passionate about strategically sustaining and extending the reach of First Pres, and we love how in doing so, we reflect the love of Jesus Christ together.

Madison Vulkanblomst graduated from Palm Beach Atlantic University with her BA in English and philosophy and has also completed a year of an MS in Global Development. She has been a part of missions to orphanages in Bolivia and the Ivory Coast, and she has worked for several years between Cru and Heart of the City Foundation in marketing & communications as well as fundraising. She has also spent several years as an educator in English and ESL. Beyond The Avenir Project, she loves to indulge in literature and philosophy, write poetry, practice yoga, swim in the ocean, and play piano.
